SATURNcast: Rings of Saturn #55

Listen here.

I hate awkward social situations like small talk and hugging people you do not know.

Weddings of two divorced people are anti-climatic

I attempt small talk and it goes horribly wrong.

Is the term “breeder” for straight people offensive?

I mention AJ and Tigger’s podcasts.

I feel somewhat sorry for Senator Larry Craig — I believe he is a sex addict.

I am enjoying a non-alcoholic cocktail. I mixed cranberry juice and 7-UP. I can’t afford that pretentious Sprite. (Okay, that was a joke) I think Sprite is the drink that cool kids drink because they think it’s cooler than 7-UP. It’s all Daddy buys!

I try not to call anyone a breeder but I honestly never really thought about what it means to call someone a breeder. If I ever start to in the future I’ll not say it if they’re not breeding. Do you heterosexual couples prefer str8y’s?

  2. Forrest Says:

I hate small talk! I hate not knowing people and having to bullshit about the weather or something BORING! I also hate hugs from people I don’t know… and even some people I do know. Get the fuck away from me and quit talking to me! I’d rather sulk in the corner by myself thank you. Damn, I’m so anti-social. I also really don’t like work gatherings after hours because you spend your non-work hours talking to people you work with about work… it’s dull and I hate work, so why would I want to talk about it more than I have to?

The last wedding I went to was my parent’s. I don’t know if I would go to another if it came along… if it were someone very close to me, I probably would. Otherwise, I’d probably just send my best wishes. I don’t like buying people I don’t know well gifts either (especially people I work with). I wouldn’t expect someone else to buy me something, so why should someone else expect me to buy them something.

Jay and I aren’t planning to get married, especially if it is still illegal for any of our friends to get married. I think the only reason we would get married is if it were absolutely necessary, but is it ever necessary? Also, Jay and I don’t believe in the sanctity of marriage, which pretty much nullifies the whole concept.

I don’t really like the breeder term, but I don’t give a shit what anyone calls me. I’m not offended if someone says it toward me, but it isn’t accurate. I know that, but other people who would use that term to refer to me would probably not know me well enough to know it isn’t accurate. Mostly, I think it’s a stupid word that is generally derogatory.

  3. Zilla Says:

I use the word hetros I think more which I think is closer to being accurate BUT I really think everyone is just shades of the labels ya know.
It is the combo of the word its many meanings to different people and how it is used that matters.
I am still confused why there is not a good negative word for white folk..like the word “cracker” does nothing to raise my blood pressure?

  4. Kentie Says:

    Hi Christian,

I just wanted to point out something you said on this episode of your podcast. You equated bathroom sex/foot tapping with ‘homosexual’ behavior. That is wrong. You said it so surely as if all homosexuals are prone to have sex in public toilets.

This behavior of men having sex in toilets is just that. Usually married men looking to get their rocks off and maybe for the thrill.

You know I am gay and I hate to misrepresented and especially from people who should know better and claim to support gay rights.

    Thanks,
    Ken Stoeffler

  5. Kalvin Says:

I didn’t get the impression that Kentie is talking about at all. Personally, use breeder all you want. You can call me a faggot all you want too. For me it has to do with intention and perception. After all, words are just an abstraction of an intention, and I wouldn’t think you would be using it in the way in which it was offensive. Oh, and gay men have sex in bathrooms all the time! Hello! We have bathhouses, and parks are notorious for it. I’m sick and tired of puritanicals trying to demonize anyone who doesn’t think sex should only occur in a bed in someone’s bedroom. I’m just rambling. I liked the show a lot.

  6. Tigger Says:

Your website did it again Christiaan….a nice comment deleted into hyper space for apparently no reason at all….maybe this site doesn’t like Macs or Safari browser. Hmmmm

As I was saying in my now lost comment….

I was introduced to the word “breeder” in the late 1980’s. It was a fiery derogatory term used in an very insulting fashion for heterosexuals. The word and its meaning referred to the false notion that heterosexuals were somehow below homosexuals because they participated in animalistic breeding behaviors. That somehow straights were less evolutionary evolved as homosexuals. Is there any logic to this. No. But the term and its meaning was intended to insult.

Gays use the word “fag” as the black community uses the word “nigger”. Personally, I find the word fag and faggot to be insulting in any situation.

Kentie….I think if you have listened to Christiaan’s show for any length of time you would know that Christiaan is a firm supporter of gay rights. Honestly, I think this might have been a slip of the tongue regarding the public sex comment.

Your comment about “married men looking to get their rocks off” seemed to be a generalization about heterosexuals. How do you know if these men are married or not?
