SATURNcast: The Jonestown Massacre

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Listen here.

Today I discuss Jim Jones and the People’s Temple.

Jones, who started as a preacher became more and more insane and paranoid — eventually leaving the United States with his followers and starting Jonestown.

Many people living in Jonestown felt trapped and held hostage. When Congressman Leo Ryan flew to Jonestown to investigate he was shot dead.

Jim Jones, in the height of paranoia, convinces hundreds of his followers to kill themselves on Kool-Aid laced with cyanide.

I play the recording of the final 25 minutes where Jim Jones convinces his flock that the time is now to kill themselves.

I think you will be shocked at how little emotion or protest there actually is.

Judge Learned Hand

Listen here.

Sir Issac Newton tries to annoy me, but only ends up making a fool of himself.

How are you?  I bet no one ever asks you that.

I receive a voice mail from ZillaFag which puts the fight with my parents in context.

I spend the 4th of July, an American holiday, cleaning the grave of one of the United State’s greatest judges, Learned Hand.  It is a travesty that people have allowed his grave to become abandoned.

Bean and I are going on vacation this week!  We will be in the deep, isolated woods of the Adirondack Mountains.  No cells phones, no blackberrys, no internet, no cable tv.  Just the Bean and nature.

I worry on vacations.  I know it is silly of me, but I do.

I discuss how I ruined my visit to the ruins in Rome.

SATURNcast: Rings of Saturn #42

Saturday, June 9th, 2007

Listen Here.

JFK — what more do I have to say?

Segregation in Alabama in 1963 and no same-sex civil marriage in 2007.  The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Remember it was the transgendered community that started the Stonewall Riots, not rich white gay men.

Robert Bork is a hypocrite.

Alright, time to lighten up. . .

I talk about my love of all things paranormal.

I discuss Carl Jung’s theory of synchroncity.

I talk about the Phoenix Lights. Do you believe in UFO’s?

Electronic Voice Phenomenon.  Do you believe in ghosts?

Send me your own paranormal stories at 206-338-2154 or email me at saturncast at gmail.com

I respectfully disagree with ZillaFag ’s claim that podcasting is dead.  On the contrary, I think it this is only just the beginning.

A very random show today indeed. . .

Suzy B, Freddy D, Baby J and Me

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

Listen Here.

This may be my worst podcast ever.  I give you a soundtour of Mt. Hope Cemetery in Rochester, NY.

We vist the graves of Susan B. Anthony and Fredrick Douglas

I bring my dog Jefferson Kennedy Dog with me.

I do not like this podcast — because I am using binaural microphones with my iriver, the sound levels fluctuate up and down — which would drive any podcaster crazy.

I also give a brief history of Rochester and the suicide of Kodak’s founder, George Eastman.

I would strongly suggest wearing headphones when listening to this.

The sound quality fluctulates a great deal.

I woud not even post this, but my dog Jefferson is with me and I want to post her with me for history’s sake.  Enjoy.

(I would suggest wearing headphones)
