A ‘Lil Taste O’Texas

Saturday, December 30th, 2006

Texas Justice

Early one morning with time to kill
I borrowed Jeb’s rifle and sat on the hill
I saw a lone rider crossing the plain
I drew a bead on him to practice my aim
My brother’s rifle went off in my hand
A shot rang out across the land
The horse he kept running, the rider was dead
I hung my head, I hung my head

I set off running to wake from the dream
And my brother’s rifle went into the stream
I kept on running into the salt lands
And that’s where they found me, my head in my hands
The sheriff he asked me “Why had I run”
Then it came to me just what I had done
And all for no reason, just one piece of lead
I hung my head, I hung my head

Here in the courthouse, the whole town is there
I see the judge high up in his chair
“Explain to the courtroom what went through your mind
And we’ll ask the jury what verdict they find”
I said “I felt the power of death over life
I orphaned his children, I widowed his wife
I beg their forgiveness, I wish I was dead”
I hung my head, I hung my head

Early one morning with time to kill
I see the gallows up on the hill
And out in the distance a trick of the brain
I see a lone rider crossing the plain
He’s come to fetch me to see what they done
We’ll ride together til Kingdom come
I pray for God’s mercy for soon I’ll be dead
I hung my head, I hung my head

Grerald Ford

Down, down, down into the darkness of the grave
Gently they go, the beautiful, the tender, the kind;
Quietly they go, the intelligent, the witty, the brave.
I know. But I do not approve. And I am not resigned.

Searching for Degas

Friday, December 8th, 2006

Degas Dancers

Listen here.

Post-operative Bean gives a special shout-out and thank you to everyone who wished her well during her operation.

And then it is back to Paris where Christiaan and pre-operative Bean give you a mini-tour of the Palace of Versailles.

. . .then it is off to Cimetiere de Monmarte to find the grave of the Bean’s favorite artist, Edgar Degas.

Funny postscript — At the time we thought we never found Degas grave. We actually did without knowing it. We laughed as we walked by a crypt that read “Famille de Gas.” We laughed because we thought it said “Family of Gas”

It said “Degas”

So we missed out of taking in Degas’s grave for a fart joke. . .

SATURNcast: Rings of Saturn #15

Friday, November 10th, 2006

JesusYou can listen to Rings of Saturn #15 here.

Today I am pissed. Super pissed.

I start off the show by playing a portion of a speech by President John Kennedy to the press. (music by Smiling Cynic: Beautiful and Useless, off the Podsafe Music Network)

I discuss the fact that everyone is all giddy over the Democrats winning Congress. While I am happy about this, I do not think much will change at all. Remember Newt Gingrich’s Republican Revolution of 1994? It is all one big cycle. Only you can change the quality of your life.

I express total and absolute disgust that seven states: Virginia, South Carolina, Tennessee,Colorado, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Idaho all voted to ban same-sex marriage.

Even the Bean’s family voted for the same-sex marriage ban!

WHY ISN’T ANYONE TALKING ABOUT THIS? WHY IS NO ONE MAD? C’MON PEOPLE.

South Africa allowed same-sex marriage this week.

I play Jesus Loves Me by Jillian, off the Podsafe Music Network

PizzaBabe ticker-tape parade is this Sunday!

Listen to the ZillaFag Podcast
I was a complete jerk to the Bean this week. I am sorry Bean. (I was really, really nasty)

I share with you my bathroom horror story, which involved law enforcement, during the taping of last week’s podcast.

More music from Podsafe Music Network:

Goblin Attack by Second Symphony

Post Office Jesus by Little Fish/Big Pond

SATURNcast Shownotes: Rings of Saturn #14

Oakwood Cemetery

Listen to Rings of Saturn #14 by clicking here.
First off, I would like to thank the outpouring of support shown to the Bean and me from Rings of Saturn #13. It means a great deal to us. Thank you.

I do something different today. I take you on an audio sound tour of Oakwood Cemetery, an old and beautiful cemetery, located in Troy, New York.

Troy,NYI start the tour by standing at the grave of Uncle Sam. Samuel Wilson, aka Uncle Sam, who lived and was buried in Troy. As I stand here at the grave of Uncle Sam, there is military funeral going on for a solider killed in the Iraq War. Uncle Sam grave

I note the irony of that.

I spend a good deal of time outlining the history of the cemetery and the notable people buried here.

Cemeteries are an excellent place to go and relax and think. Seriously. Look at the scores of people buried and dead. They all had problems, concerns and egos. At times they felt joy, experienced stress and insults.

But you know what? In 100 years it will not matter. We all end up in the same place, rich or poor. So we might as well enjoy life. Cemeteries always bring this reality back to me.

I discuss and “show” you several notable graves.

You can find some of that history, including the fun story about Russell Sage here.

Here is some history about Bat Shea and Robert Ross.

Erie Canal Song (Low Bridge) performed by the Dady Brothers.
