My book

Can you believe that this is the 30th Rings of Saturn SATURNcast?!!

That jerk, Issac Newton could never podcast for this long.

I want to thank all of you for your incredible support and kind words during the Bean and my attempt to adopt two little girls.

It means a great deal to us.

The Bean updates you all about what happened last Wednesday during our interview.

I promise not to bore you with adoption stories.

I read an infurating article from baby-boomers who claim the younger generation is far more selfish than they are.

POPPYCOCK!

Check out the new never before seen pictures from Saturn.

Big Slick

Listen here.

Today I interview my good friend Eric Luper. Eric is a talented author who is the author of the teen novel, Big Slick, which will be published in September.

Eric and I talk about his new book, the creative writing process, the book business and one of my favorite years, 1934.

Eric is a great person and we should all support his works. He has worked very hard to get published.

It is required reading on Saturn.

ticket for depression

Listen here

a word of warning. . .

I am depressed today, and thus, so is the show. . .

I start the show with a happy announcement from the Bean

I Hate Sundays.  Hate.

I applaud Jen and Bob from the Pizzababe Goes Global podcast and Tigger from the Tiggercast for their strong words against homophobia and Tim Hardaway.

Homophobia and bigotry affects us all.

Why are we so cruel to each other?

I discuss irony and Madge Weinstein.

I feel sorry for Brittany Spears and Anna Nicole Smith

I am a sad sack today.

I promise to be happy next time. . .

Reminiscing with an old friend

Sunday, January 21st, 2007

Old Friends

Listen here.

My best friend, since kindergarten, reminisce about the old skool days.

We are not proud of the old days. We are very fortunate not to be in prison or dead. We used to laugh about it — now we thank our lucky stars. . .

Dead Presidents

Listen here.

The world-famous Bean joins Rings of Saturn #21 as a guest host.

Am I wrong to question other podcasters use of audio-blackface?

Is therefore the use of Brian Boothby hypocritical?

We discuss the Saddam Hussein execution. The person in charge of public relations for this hanging should be fired.

ANDY MELTON LAUNCHES INTO SPACE! It will take him ten years to get to Saturn.

Andy will update us about his space journey on the SATURNcast from time to time.

Bean and I end the show discussing the death of Gerald Ford, and how poor it was of everybody not to show up for his state ceremonies.

New Year’s Day is just like every other day — exactly the same.

A ‘Lil Taste O’Texas

Saturday, December 30th, 2006

Texas Justice

Early one morning with time to kill
I borrowed Jeb’s rifle and sat on the hill
I saw a lone rider crossing the plain
I drew a bead on him to practice my aim
My brother’s rifle went off in my hand
A shot rang out across the land
The horse he kept running, the rider was dead
I hung my head, I hung my head

I set off running to wake from the dream
And my brother’s rifle went into the stream
I kept on running into the salt lands
And that’s where they found me, my head in my hands
The sheriff he asked me “Why had I run”
Then it came to me just what I had done
And all for no reason, just one piece of lead
I hung my head, I hung my head

Here in the courthouse, the whole town is there
I see the judge high up in his chair
“Explain to the courtroom what went through your mind
And we’ll ask the jury what verdict they find”
I said “I felt the power of death over life
I orphaned his children, I widowed his wife
I beg their forgiveness, I wish I was dead”
I hung my head, I hung my head

Early one morning with time to kill
I see the gallows up on the hill
And out in the distance a trick of the brain
I see a lone rider crossing the plain
He’s come to fetch me to see what they done
We’ll ride together til Kingdom come
I pray for God’s mercy for soon I’ll be dead
I hung my head, I hung my head

Grerald Ford

Down, down, down into the darkness of the grave
Gently they go, the beautiful, the tender, the kind;
Quietly they go, the intelligent, the witty, the brave.
I know. But I do not approve. And I am not resigned.

1938 headlines

Click here to read the script.

Read about the aftermath and impact of the program here.

This was done in 1938. That’s right 1938.

You have to keep in mind, nothing like this had ever been attempted on radio before.
I first listened to this when I was very young. I was thrilled because I had just received my very first library card and was amazed you could check records out!

I listened on my tiny record player (that my dad purchased for me at a next-door neighbor’s garage sale) and I listened over and over again.

It has stuck with me and influenced me. My views on public relations and media manipulation stem from this 1938 audio program.

Enjoy. I sure did.

It’s been copied since, but they have been poor imitations.
